The residents of Haven for Children re-enacted scenes from the lives of saints for their “Holy-ween” activity

Every year, the Haven for Children joins in the celebration of All Saint’s Day by decorating the center’s three cottages with the spookiest ensembles and wearing ghostly or bloody costumes. However, for this year’s celebration, the Psychological Service initiated a conventional and yet on-trend way to celebrate All Saint’s Day by honouring the saints which is the true essence of the said day.

On October 27, the Haven for Children’s psychological service facilitated an activity wherein the three cottages were tasked to research the life of a saint. The cottages will then present a roleplay on the journey of their assigned saint to sainthood.

Narra Cottage, under the leadership of Ms. Jenny Olivas, presented the life of Saint Pedro Calungsod. Meanwhile, Yakal Cottage presented the greatness of San Lorenzo Ruiz, with the assistance of their focal social worker, Ms. Syra Huiso. Lastly, Kamagong Cottage, with the help of their houseparents, narrated the holiness of Saint Jerome Emiliani. It was surprising that although they were only given a week to research, write their script and prepare their props, the children in the three cottages delivered great performances especially that it was a first time activity for them. The children enjoyed acting on stage and working behind the scenes.

After the presentation of each cottage’s roleplay, all the children were invited to join in the Holy Trick or Treat to each service. All the services prepared treats and tricks for each resident. All the participating residents were happy with the treats they have received and tackled the challenges of the tricks thrown to them.

The Haven for Children’s residents all enjoyed the successful Holy-ween celebration and are looking to replicate the activity for the coming year. ###
