National Autism Consciousness Week, a celebration held every third week of January, aims to increase the acceptance, foster inclusivity and to appreciate persons with Autism. In the spirit of this event, Elsie Gaches Village joined the annual Angels Walk held last January 14, 2018 at the Mall of Asia Arena. Thirteen (13) of the center’s residents participated in the advocacy event hosted by the Autism Society Philippines. The event showcased the talents of persons with autism and the accomplishments of the advocacy through the awarding of the Autism Hero Achievement Award.

Senator Riza Hontiveros and Ms. Candy Pangilinan, among other advocates; graced the event to express their support for the cause of autism consciousness. After the program, the Angels Walk commenced with the participants traversed along Mall of Asia and the Seaside area.

Elsie Gaches Village Psychological Service also prepared different activities and games for the center’s residents in honor of National Autism Consciousness Week. Eight (8) of EGV’s residents participated in games such as fish relay and puzzle games with the assistance of the therapist on January 16, 2018.

A picnic and karaoke activity was also held on January 18, 2018. Ten of the center’s residents joined the activity which was held at the side of Meehan building in Elsie Gaches Village. The residents with autism enjoyed the activity, especially the karaoke.

The great response to the conduct of the different activities for National Autism Consciousness Week has been fulfilling and overwhelming. The overflowing love and support from the families and the members of the private sector could be felt throughout the conduct of the activity. The celebration also served as a venue for persons with autism to be given chances to discover their potential to achieve great things in their lives. ###
