The City of Mandaluyong, labelled as the Tiger City is the National Capital Region’s nominee to the Search for 2012 Presidential Award for Most Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities under the Highly Urbanized City category.

Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin Abalos Jr. personally received the recognition during the awarding ceremonies held on April 17, 2013 at Bahay ng Alumni in UP Diliman, Quezon City.

DSWD-NCR Regional Director Ma. Alicia S. Bonoan said that Mandaluyong won for the first time this Presidential Award for Most Child-Friendly Cities in 2011.

The prestigious 2012 Most Child-Friendly City award for this year was bagged by the City of Davao while Mandaluyong City joined the cities of Bacolod, Baguio, Butuan and Olongapo in the rooster of national finalists.

Mandaluyong was nominated for its innovative programs and initiatives such as Enhanced Millennium Baby Project, Pamahalaan sa Pamayanan, E-Trike, E2G2 (Effective and Ethical Good Governance) and Young Journalists Association of Mandaluyong (Y-JAM), among others.

The Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities was initiated by the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) to recognize the LGUs that premium to “child-friendly” environment and upholds the rights of Filipino children to survival, development, protection and participation.
