The Department of Social Welfare and Development-National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) recently conducted orientation to the Local Government Units (LGUs) for the second round of household assessment, held at Greenhills Elan Hotel. This was participated in by representatives from the Mayor’s Office, City/Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office and Urban Poor Affairs Office.

DSWD-NCR Regional Director Ma. Alicia S. Bonoan said the event aimed to mobilize and seek the support of the LGUs for the second round of enumeration that will be conducted on September to December 2013 to update the list of poor households in Metro Manila.

During the orientation, the participants were informed about Listahanan or the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR).

Some misinformation about the targeting mechanism of the project cycle was also clarified.

Bonoan disclosed that the second round of enumeration is targeting approximately 1,267,292 poor households who need social protection services.

During the 2009 enumeration, a total of 5,255,188 households have been identified as poor in the country.  Of these, 316,823 are from the National Capital Region.

Listahanan or NHTS-PR is an information management system that identifies who and where the poor are nationwide. The system makes available to national government agencies and other social protection stakeholders a database of poor families as reference in identifying potential beneficiaries of social protection programs and services. ###(DSWD-NCR Social Marketing Office, September 03, 2013)
