The Department of Social Welfare and Development-National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) conferred Joshua E. Estonilo, 12 years old, grade VI pupil from Western Bicutan, Taguig City, as the Exemplary Pantawid Pamilya Child 2013 in NCR, during the awarding ceremony at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City on October 25, 2013.

 

Joshua, whose parents are laborer and street sweeper with meager monthly income of P5, 700.00, is a child-beneficiary of Pantawid Pamilya since December 2008 who has demonstrated active participation to school/ community activities as well as showed good value in his study.

 

DSWD-NCR Regional Director Ma. Alicia S. Bonoan said that Joshua bested the other 13 nominees because of his active participation to community activities such as   tree planting, dance contest, clean up drive and other youth activities aside from being a consistent top student in his class from grades 1-5.

 

As a sign of good leadership, Joshua was elected as the class president this school year where he applies his negotiation skills between his classmates the same way to his family members when he is at home.

 

Together with Joshua, Carl Jorem O. Serrano, 13 years old, from Riverside, Pasay City and Marc Lendon C. Piloto, 14 years old, from Baseco, Manila, were also awarded as first and second runner-ups, respectively.

The Search aims to recognize children-beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilya who set as good example to their fellow children in terms of the following used criteria for judging; Behaviour and Practice (Kilos at Ugali)-35%; Intelligence/ Smartness (Talino) -35%; Community/ School Participation (Pakikilahok sa Komunidad/ Eskwela)– 20%; and Stage Presence & Appearance  (Tindig at porma)- 10%.

 

The awarding of NCR’s Exemplary Pantawid Pamilya Child is in relation to the celebration of the National Children’s Month this October, and part of the weeklong celebration of DSWD-NCR’s 35th Foundation Anniversary, as well.

 

Meanwhile, the members of the Regional Council for the Welfare of Children (RCWC) with the representatives from PIA-NCR, NCRPO, Hope for the Youth Foundation, Bantay Bata 163, Council for the Welfare of Children and DOH-NCR, were judges for this year’s Search. ###
