Ms. Gloria Serrano, 51 years old, and Pantawid Pamilya beneficiary from Novaliches, Quezon City, expresses her gratitude to DSWD – citing the City Links, PDOs, Regional Director, to Secretary Dinky Soliman, for the trust that the Department has given to her association through the livelihood capital assistance under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).

Serrano is a president in one of the 28 Self-Employment Assistance – Kaunlaran (SEA-K) associations composed of 534 Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries from the cities of Quezon, Taguig, Pasay, Navotas, Manila, San Juan, Caloocan and Valenzuela. They received capital assistance awarded during the DSWD-NCR flag ceremony on July 21, 2014.

Having nine (9) children, Serrano said that this livelihood assistance will enable her to expand her mini food store which augments the educational and health expenses of her children. This is in addition to the cash grant her family receives and income of her husband Salvador, 54 years old, and a carpenter.

“We are now in subsistence level; hopefully, through this livelihood assistance entrusted to us by DSWD, we may eventually reach self-sufficiency,” Serrano said in tagalog.

The total capital assistance awarded to the 28 SEA-K associations is P3,931,000.00.

Meanwhile, DSWD-NCR recently awarded livelihood assistance worth P491,500.00 to three (3) SEA-K associations composed of 81 Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries in Malanday, Marikina City.

Overall, DSWD-NCR has awarded P10,221,000 to 118 SEA-K associations in Metro Manila composed of 2,287 Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries, for the 1st semester of 2014.###
