Fourteen (14) residents from the Haven for Women and six (6) staff members successfully completed the Hairdressing Program on June 23, 2026, sponsored by Insular Foundation, Inc., in partnership with the Muntinlupa City Technical Institute. This activity is part of a continuing effort to empower women through livelihood skills development.
The 10-day program provided participants with hands-on instruction in basic hairdressing techniques, equipping them with practical skills that can open opportunities for future employment or entrepreneurship. The initiative aims to enhance the participants’ self-confidence, promote self-sufficiency, and prepare them for successful reintegration into their families and communities. By learning a marketable trade, the women are better positioned to pursue sustainable livelihoods and build brighter futures.
Alias ‘Patricia’, one of the residents who participated in the training, shared a heartfelt testimony about her experience. She recounted that although she initially felt scared and uncertain, a little encouragement gave her the confidence to overcome her fears. She also learned to embrace her mistakes as a natural part of the learning process.
“Hindi ko maisip na pwede pala akong matutong maggupit kasi hindi ko naman pinangarap ito at natatakot ako pero dito ko natutunan ang skills na ito na pwede ko pang pagkakitaan,” Patricia expressed.
The participants were awarded certificates and received their own hairdressing kits in recognition of their dedication and successful completion of the program. Center Head Ms. Herminia Arcangel, Social Welfare Officer V, stressed that the kits are not the most important part of the journey, but rather the skills gained to survive and build a better future.
“Skills ang pinaka-importante dito dahil magagamit niyo ito sa future bilang isang hanap-buhay, kaya salamat dahil kitang-kita sa inyo ang pursige para matuto ng panibagong skills,” Center Head Arcangel stressed.
The Haven for Women remains committed to providing holistic interventions and capacity-building activities that support the rehabilitation, recovery, and empowerment of women under its care through meaningful partnerships with public and private organizations.
