The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) is continuously providing transportation assistance to survivors of typhoon Yolanda who arrived in Metro Manila through its ‘Balik Probinsya’ program.
DSWD-NCR Regional Director Ma. Alicia S. Bonoan said the families and individuals displaced by typhoon Yolanda who arrived in Manila to seek refuge and now decided to go back to Eastern Visayas are now being assessed by social workers to facilitate their return to their respective provinces.
Bonoan added that DSWD-NCR has served a total of 5,572 displaced families with 23,489 individuals from November 16, 2013 to January 2, 2014 during the ‘Oplan Salubong’ operations at the Villamor Air Base.
“The situation in Eastern Visayas is better now. Some who came to Manila to seek temporary shelter after the devastating typhoon have decided to go home to start rebuilding their lives, so we are facilitating their return to the province by providing them transportation assistance,” explained Director Bonoan.
As of January 15, 2014, some P7M has been disbursed for transportation assistance of more than 1,200 families through the DSWD-NCR’s Emergency Assistance Section.
The DSWD-NCR started accommodating families and individuals who are survivors of typhoon Yolanda on December 20, 2013. ###
