The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) continues to send and distribute relief assistance to families who are temporarily housed in evacuation centers in Metro Manila.
DSWD-NCR Regional Director, Ma. Alicia S. Bonoan appeals to non-government organizations and private individuals to donate drinking water and join the government in continuously providing the needed assistance of the flood victims.
Donations intended for victims in Metro Manila may be sent to DSWD-NCR office located at 389 San Rafael cor.Legarda Streets, Sampaloc, Manila orcall telephone numbers73498635/4883199 or to DSWD-National Resource OperationsCenter (NROC) at NAIA Chapel Road, Pasay City (beside Airport Police Department and back of Transportation Office) with telephone numbers 852-8081 and 851-2681.
As of August 10, at 3pm, a total of 327 evacuation centersfrom 264 barangays in Metro Manila remain open to accommodate the 45,381 families or 207,243 individuals who were affected by floods due to the continuous heavy monsoon rains.
Bonoan added that DSWD-NCR has augmented the Local Government Units (LGUs) with some P8.7M worth of food and non-foodassistance and deployed its staff to serve as coordinators and liaisons in the LGU identified evacuationcenters.
“DSWD also coordinates with non-government organizations (NGOs) to augment the LGUs in setting-up community kitchens in evacuation centers,” said Bonoan.
At present, the cities of Mandaluyong, Pasig and Marikina have community kitchens set-up in their evacuation centers. ###
