After receiving her cash grants during the pay-out for beneficiaries of Modified Conditional Cash Transfer for Homeless Street Families (MCCT-HSF) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development- National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR), May Lacson, 28, hopes that soon, she and her two children will be out of the streets.
Lacson is a solo parent of children, 2 and 10 years old. She works as a parking lot aide and a car washer in Port Area, Tondo, Manila.
According to Lacson, she has actually three children but the second child died due to meningitis when he was one year old in 2004. She added that she decided to separate from her husband because of his violent behaviour especially when he is under the influence of illegal drugs.
Previously, they were living near the DPWH office at Port Area, Manila where only tarpaulins serve as their roof and empty boxes are their beds until they underwent assessment, and qualified as beneficiary of the government’s MCCT program in August 2012.
In November 2012, aside from the monthly cash grants for the education and health of the children, they were transferred to a rented house at corner 17th and Railroad Streets, Port Area, Manila as provided under the program.
