TS_maring2013The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the National Capital Region (DSWD–NCR) has provided some Php 2,326,160 worth of assistance to   families and individuals affected by Tropical Storm Maring.

DSWD–NCR Regional Director Ma. Alicia S. Bonoan said the Field Office provided family food packs, mattresses, blankets and mosquito nets to the flood victims.

Bonoan added that a total of 299 evacuation centers in 17 Local Government Units (LGUs) in Metro Manila have been activated to accommodate the affected families and individuals.

As of 3:00pm (August 21, 2013), the number of affected families reached a total of some 34,989 families with 161,107 individuals due to the massive flooding. At least 275 evacuation centers remain open to provide shelter to some 28,767 families with 129,374 individuals.

Bonoan explained that another 2,630 families with 13,150 individuals were accounted outside evacuation centers.

She also said that DSWD–NCR Disaster Response Teams are rendering 24–hour duty to monitor the situation at the evacuation centers.  It also ensures the availability of manpower and food packs to augment the resources of LGUs.

City Links and Community Organizers were likewise mobilized to continuously conduct monitoring and assist the LGUs in managing the evacuation centers.  It also deployed staff at the MMDA Flood Control Information Center to monitor the flooding situation. ### (FO NCR Social Marketing Office, August 21, 2013)
