To solicit support on the conduct of second Household Assessment in 2014, the Department of Social Welfare and Development –National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR), through its National Household Targeting Unit (NHTU) is conducting orientations to barangay chairpersons of Metro Manila this December 2013 until January 2014.

DSWD-NCR Regional Director Ma. Alicia S. Bonoan said that the support of the barangay chairpersons is highly encouraged because they play a critical role in ensuring the success of the project. They can also assure that the beneficiaries of social protection programs and services are the genuine poor.

During the barangay orientations in Malabon, Marikina, Mandaluyong, and Pasig, the preparatory activities and the procedures of the Household Assessment were discussed. They were also urged to identify and endorse the “pockets of poverty” in their respective barangays for inclusion in the assessment.

Further, barangay chairpersons assured that they will provide the needed assistance, such as the security of the Field Office staff, among others, during the process.

Meanwhile, the conduct of the Household Assessment was also discussed during the “Laying the Groundwork: Punong Barangay’s First 100 Days,” which was facilitated by the Manila Barangay Bureau and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and attended by the barangay chairpersons of Districts 3 and 6, City of Manila.

The 2013 Household Assessment will update the Listahanan database of poor households which were established in 2009. The data is now ready for sharing to all agencies and organizations as basis in identifying beneficiaries of social protection programs.
