The Department of Social Welfare and Development – National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) recently held PWDs Skills Competition 2014, in celebration of the 36th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week. During the event, persons with disabilities (PWDs) showcased their skills and talents in different competitions held at SM Center, Muntinlupa City.
Carrying this year’s theme, “Talino at Paninindigan ng Taong May Kapansanan : Pasaporte sa Kaunlaran,” the PWDs demonstrated that they can succeed and accomplish great things despite their disability. They proved to one and all that they can perform like their able-bodied counterparts.
The PWDs from local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila participated in photography, cake decoration, painting, waste reuse, flower arrangement and cooking.
The champions in each category were: Cyrus Ballega (Pasig City), photography; Anne Charlaine Santos (Quezon City), cake decoration; Efcel Carina Amor Serrano (Makati City), painting; Carolyn Rubio (Makati City), waste reuse; Edwin Philip Ignacio (Makati City), flower arrangement; and Gemma Valero (Makati City), cooking.
Regional winners will compete in the national level on December 3, 2014, for an opportunity to represent the country during the Abilympic Games to be held in France in 2015.
Further, DSWD-NCR Assistant Regional Director Delia U. Bawan, commended all the participants, especially the parents, social workers and other institutions who continuously support the endeavors of PWDs.
