Every year Marillac Hills participates in the celebration of children’s month, since the residential care facility caters girls below eighteen years old. For this year, the theme was “IsulongKalidad ng Edukasyon Para saLahat ng Bata”. The lined-up activities were led by the Child Participation Council (CPC)and Educational Service.
At the onset, banners were displayed to make awareness inside the facility. Also last November 21, 2016, a poster making contest was held and the products were displayed at the central lawn. The colourful and creative arts of the student-residents were indeed seen at their work and the theme was also brought out by the distinguished participants.
It was November 24, 2016 when the work shop, role playing, and discussion of the rights and responsibilities of a child were facilitated. Through this, the residents became empowered and got to know the laws governing the rights of them as children. This is being done in order for them to be knowledgeable and capacitated so they themselves could fight for their rights. In addition, responsibilities as children were also discussed. This was made to teach them more on how to be responsible and reliant individuals. That they do not only have rights nevertheless, they too have their own share of duties and accountabilities.
The third activity last November 28, 2016 was conducted through a volleyball game, which the girls of Marillac Hills are also known at. The game did not just display the strength of children but it also trains them in other areas of life. It taught them to be a good player; it helped them promote camaraderie and uplift their spirit of sportsmanship. They learned how to play and work as a team and also they have realized that the real meaning of sports was not only to be a winner but to enjoy the game.
The final activity on November 29, 2016 was the Parol Making. This activity needs the resourcefulness of the participants. The activity helped not only to ease themselves from boredom but by developing their artistic sideand reliving in them the spirit of Christmas. The children indeed enjoyed this part because through the year, Christmas is the most awaited season of everyone.
The ceremony will be closed by the Child Participation Council (CPC) and Educational Service on December 5, 2016 whereinthe awarding of the winners will be facilitated. ###
