In line with the campaign of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) to be safe and prepared during unexpected disasters like earthquakes, the DSWD NCR National Vocational Rehabilitation Center (NVRC) joins the 1st Quarter of Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on March 11, 2021, at exactly 2 o’clock in the afternoon.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, no evacuation drills and scenarios will be conducted in compliance with the minimum public health measures. Nevertheless, the Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) of DSWD-NCR organized a virtual learning session for said activity.

Attended by the staff and clients of NVRC, the importance of being prepared in any disaster was discussed, one of which is the preparation of Go Bag—a portable kit that normally contains the items that would require to survive for 72 hours when evacuating.

At exactly 2 o’clock in the afternoon, the fire alarm started to ring as a sign to virtually start the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill. The staffs of NVRC are inside the conference room while the clients are in their respective classrooms. During the warning alarm, they demonstrated the “Duck, Cover and Hold”.

Meanwhile, the deaf trainees and other categories of clients were assisted by their visually impaired clients of NVRC to ensure that they are safe from joining the said activity. The clients were instructed to do the duck, cover, and hold. Afterward, a headcount was conducted. Mr. Ramon T. Vargas as the focal person of NVRC’s Emergency Preparedness Committee gave insights on the drill conducted.

Mr. Ramon emphasized the importance of joining such a National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill and other activities that raise awareness on any disaster; with this, people will have unity in facing the before, during, and after any disaster may come.

The activity was successfully done; the activity aims to strengthen the knowledge of the clients and staff of NVRC during calamities that might occur anytime.

National Vocational Rehabilitation Center (NVRC) is a non-residential institution that provides training and rehabilitation programs and services to persons with disabilities and special groups, including the elderly and dependent of PWDs.
