The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office NCR is taking proactive steps to prepare for the potential effects of El Niño in the National Capital Region. In line with this, the Office has recently launched informative IEC material on its official Facebook page to raise awareness among the public. This IEC material, which was crafted with reference to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA)’s own “Payong PagAsa” – also an IEC material, is designed for easy understanding and is shareable, making it easier for citizens to participate in information dissemination.

It also shows essential preparedness measures which citizens may take. These measures include water conservation, sustainable farming practices, and health and hygiene promotion.

The DSWD Field Office NCR understands the importance of being prepared from the effects of El Niño, which can bring about prolonged droughts, reduced agricultural productivity, and health risks. Thus, DSWD Field Office NCR is committed to working with local government units and other stakeholders in the implementation of programs and services which may include the distribution of family food packs for food security, and provision of livelihood assistance to the most vulnerable.

Furthermore, the Office is working on long-term strategies like the Risk Resiliency Program for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation and Disaster Risk Reduction (RRP-CCAM-DRR) through Cash-for-Work program which is aimed in building the resilience of local communities.
