A global organization that serves children and communities hosted an event called “The Kiwanis Special Games” at Amoranto Sports Complex, Quezon City on January 20, 2024. Kiwanis International offers opportunities for people with disabilities to take part in various sports and activities. These can include track and field, team sports, and other fun games. The activity aims to promote inclusion, physical activity, and social interaction for those with disabilities, while also raising awareness and challenging stereotypes. Local Kiwanis clubs work with schools, community groups, and volunteers to organize and run these events, making them enjoyable and accessible for everyone involved.

Also, the sports and recreational activities will feature inclusive workshops, entertainment, and opportunities for participants to connect with peers and mentors. The event aims to not only celebrate the abilities and achievements of individuals with disabilities but also to provide resources and support for their ongoing development and well-being. Through a combination of sportsmanship, teamwork, and community spirit, the Special Games create a memorable and enriching experience for everyone involved.
The residents of Elsie Gaches Village took part in various recreational activities during the 2024 Special Games. Apart from enjoying every moment of the activities, ensuring that each individual or clients are secured to avoid any injuries. The first station was the Color Game, which required the participants to match colored paper to the colors presented on each individual. Also, the said activity had a time limit for the participants to proceed to the next station. Additionally, each participant was given a medal for actively participating and showing their skills and abilities

During the Special Games, some residents showcased their talents through dance performances. Along with the activity, a resident or client had the honor of lighting the torch that symbolized that the 2024 Special Games will commence. Participating in games will raise awareness among the residents, boosting their confidence to excel in each activity. As a result, they proudly took home three medals for each individual for participating in three stations.

The Special Games allow residents to experience various sports beyond the center’s sports activities. They get to actively participate in these special games, enjoying the experience alongside their fellow residents. Through their involvement, they also develop teamwork skills, especially when collaborating with other children during the Kiwanis events. The residents receive compliments from people at each station for their accomplishments, which encourages them to engage more attentively in every activity.
This one-day event is very special in the lives of these many determined athletes. It is a day when they are validated rather than excused for their physical capabilities. Through this event, individuals with special needs see themselves for their abilities and not their disabilities.
All athletes displayed such determination and enjoyment in winning every game. Each medal that they collected means so much to them. It feels great seeing them gain confidence through their achievements.
