In a powerful display of solidarity and commitment to community safety, the Department of Social Welfare and Development National Capital Region (DSWD NCR) actively participated in the kick-off ceremony for Fire Prevention Month together with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), volunteer fire brigades, and other government and non-government agencies. The event was held on March 1, 2024, at 3:00 PM, at the historic Quirino Grandstand, Ermita, Manila.
The primary objective of the ceremony was to emphasize the readiness of the National Capital Region to respond effectively to disasters, particularly incidents of fire. The highlight of the day was a vibrant parade that showcased the diverse assets and capabilities of various entities involved in disaster response.
Attended by the Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) of DSWD NCR, Quick Response Team Riders, firefighters from the BFP, and volunteer fire brigades, the event also drew support from various government agencies, including the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Coast Guard, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and different Local Government Units in the National Capital Region. Additionally, partners from the private and corporate sectors joined hands in this important initiative.
One notable feature of the ceremony was the introduction of the Fast Aid Service Team (FAST), where specially trained nurses showcased their ability to ride and drive motorcycles for swift response in emergencies. This innovative approach underlines the importance of quick medical assistance in disaster situations.
The ceremony didn’t just symbolize collaboration; it carried a powerful message of unity. DSWD NCR, through its DRMD, pledged ongoing support to the BFP’s advocacy, encapsulated in the mantra “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi Ka Nag-iisa” (In Fire Prevention, You Are Not Alone). This echoes the shared responsibility of both agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
In essence, the event served as a reminder that disaster preparedness is a collective effort, transcending organizational boundaries. By actively participating in the Fire Prevention Month kick-off ceremony, DSWD NCR not only showcased its commitment but also emphasized the critical role each entity plays in building a resilient and secure community.
As we navigate the unpredictable nature of disasters, the joint efforts of all stakeholders stand as a testament to the strength that emerges when communities, government agencies, and private sectors unite for a common cause.
