Taking part in a Sports Fest is a thrilling experience that combines competitive spirit with camaraderie. It gathers individuals of all ages to enjoy diverse sports and activities, creating an atmosphere charged with excitement. The friendly competition, enthusiastic cheering, and shared victories and losses build strong connections and memorable moments. Beyond physical activity, Sports Fest fosters a sense of community, making it an enjoyable and fulfilling event for participants, spectators, and volunteers.
The Center and Residential Care Facilities (CRCFs) of DSWD-NCR South Cluster officially opened its first-ever Inter-Center Sports Fest on May 13, 2024, with the theme “Pagyakap sa Kultura, Maglaro at Magsaya, South Cluster Halina’t Magsama-sama.” The event was attended by the four Residential Care Facilities (RCFs), namely Haven for Women (HFW), Haven for Children (HFC), Marillac Hills (MH), and Elsie Gaches Village (EGV). The participants wearing their team colors—HFW as the Yellow Amazons, HFC as Blazing Blue, MH as the Red Spartans, and EGV as the All-Star Green Team—started the opening program for the competition with a kick-off parade.
The event was followed by the lighting of a torch as a symbol of sportsmanship, harmony, and peace among the participants, which was facilitated by the Center Heads whose collaborative effort led to the fulfillment of the Inter-Center Sports Fest 2024 together with the sports committees per Center, who preceded the oath of sportsmanship. This event aims to build camaraderie among the staff of the different RCFs of the South Cluster as well as to give opportunities to showcase talents and skills through participating in the different games and other activities of the event.
With the week-long competition, there is still a long list of games and activities to look forward to, which will take place in the different Centers of the South, while the street dancing competition featuring the native dances from the major island groups of the Philippines: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, will be held on May 20, 2024.
