The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) National Capital Region shares its expertise today (June 20) in a training workshop program organized by the Department of Tourism NCR titled “Tourism Integrates, Supports and Minds Women’s Rights and Child Safety” (TourISM WoRCS) and Barrier-free tourism.
The training program aimed to enhance awareness among tourism stakeholders on the importance of incorporating social responsibility practices within the tourism industry, particularly focusing on the protection of women and children. By addressing critical issues such as mitigating the commercial sexual exploitation of children, combatting human trafficking, and promoting gender equality, the program sought to foster a safer and more inclusive tourism environment.
Present as Resource Speakers are 4Ps-NCR Project Development Officers Ms. Sheyne Laristan and Ms. Raven Charlizze Castillo-Mangobang, and Social Welfare Officer Ms. Bianca Cammile Guiang, who shared their valuable insights during the training sessions and emphasized the importance of creating a safe and welcoming environment for all individuals involved in the tourism industry, particularly vulnerable groups such as women and children.
The interactive sessions of the training program facilitated engaging discussions on strategies to prevent and respond to gender-based violence, human trafficking, and exploitation of minors in tourism-related activities. Participants were encouraged to adopt best practices that promote respect, equality, and protection for all individuals, aligning with the principles of ethical and responsible tourism.
The participation of DSWD NCR underscored the agency’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote social welfare and protection for marginalized sectors of society. By collaborating with the Department of Tourism and other key stakeholders, the field office reaffirmed its dedication to advancing the rights and safety of women and children in the tourism industry.
