May 12, 2025 | As the nation exercised its right to vote in the 2025 National and Local Elections, not all citizens were able to do so with ease. To address this, measures were taken to ensure a more inclusive voting experience for Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
In partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), the National Vocational Rehabilitation Center (NVRC) in Quezon City was selected as one of the Priority Polling Places (PPPs) across the country, specifically designed to accommodate the needs of seniors and PWDs.
The NVRC has long been recognized for its disability-friendly infrastructure and commitment to the empowerment of PWDs. For the elections, the center was equipped with accessibility features and staffed with trained personnel to assist voters with special needs, ensuring a smooth and dignified voting process.
Representatives from COMELEC head office and the International Election Observation Program (IEOP) are present and observed and monitored the voting process to evaluate the accessibility, security, and efficiency.
DSWD Field Office – National Capital Region Assistance Regional Director for Operations Bienvenido Jr. V. Barbosa, and NVRC Training Center Superintendent Ma. Liza F. Mahinay are also present..
Comelec reiterated its ongoing commitment to making elections more accessible and equitable for all Filipinos, particularly those from marginalized and vulnerable groups.
As the nation moves forward, efforts like these highlight the growing importance of accessibility and inclusion in strengthening democracy and civic engagement.
