Trauma and depression deeply affect individuals, leaving lasting impacts on their emotions and overall well-being. Trauma can arise from various sources, such as accidents, violence, or abuse, profoundly affecting mental health. Depression manifests as persistent sadness and loss of interest in life, often worsened by traumatic experiences. Together, they create a complex challenge involving feelings of despair, anxiety, and isolation. Recognizing these issues is crucial for developing effective healing strategies, emphasizing empathy, support, and professional help when necessary.

Rochelle, a 21-year-old student at Polytechnic University of the Philippines, shares an inspiring tale of resilience and triumph. From a childhood marked by abuse, she has transformed her life into one defined by empowerment and hope.

Her journey began with her innocence shattered by people she trusted, leading to deep depression and self-doubt. However, her life took a transformative turn when she sought refuge at Marillac Hills, a sanctuary dedicated to healing and renewal. There, she found the strength to rebuild her life and pursue her dreams despite the challenges she had faced.

With unwavering perseverance and resolve, Rochelle transcended her past, embracing opportunities for personal growth and discovery. Over time, she overcame obstacles, successfully completing her Senior High School education at Jose Fabella Memorial School – Marillac Hills Annex, and earning certificates, medals, and ribbons that stand as testament to her resilience and dedication. Despite encountering scrutiny and bullying from peers, she remained steadfast in her determination to carve out her own path and shape her future.

Rochelle underwent a profound transformation during her time at Marillac Hills, where she found herself immersed in encouragement, assistance, and prospects for growth. The nurturing atmosphere, coupled with the dedicated guidance of supportive houseparents and social workers, she discovered new skills and knowledge. With the compassionate assistance of Ms. Vikki Oquias that gives her opportunities for spiritual growth, as well as personal and skill development, Rochelle not only conquered her depression and trauma but also restored her self-worth and confidence. Her journey at Marillac Hills became a testament to resilience and personal growth.

On August 23, 2023, Rochelle emerged from Marillac Hills with a newfound sense of confidence, resilience, and gratitude. Her journey from darkness to empowerment serves as a powerful source of inspiration and hope for those struggling with depression and trauma. Her story vividly demonstrates the transformative power of determination and faith, coupled with a steadfast belief that “with trust in oneself and a guiding light from God, even the darkest of nights can give way to the dawn of a brighter tomorrow”.

“For His anger lasts only a moment, buy His favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning”.
