Following Fire Prevention Awareness Month, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) National Capital Region (NCR) Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) partnered with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) NCR to conduct a Virtual Information Caravan (VIC) on March 11, 2025 at Zen Towers, Manila. The session was led by DRMD together with BFP NCR Fire Senior Inspector Ms. Leslie Ann C. Ramos, Commander of the Manila Fire District Station 4.
The Virtual Information Caravan utilized online platforms to raise awareness about Fire Prevention Month, reaching a wide audience without the need for travel. This format featured an AVP showcasing an interview with the officer involved, providing valuable insights and safety tips. Participants could view the content at their own convenience, gaining essential information and learning directly from the expert’s experience and advice.
By sharing critical information on both fire safety and disaster preparedness, the VIC empowered the community to take the necessary steps to protect themselves and their families in emergencies. The Resource Speaker shared valuable tips on how to avoid fire incidents, emphasizing the importance of regular maintenance and safety checks in homes and workplaces. They also provided guidance on the proper usage of fire safety tools such as fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and fire alarms. Additionally, the speaker conducts firefighter training sessions and organizes fire drills in hospitals, schools, and offices to ensure that individuals are well-prepared and confident in handling emergency situations.
These proactive communication efforts not only help build awareness but also foster a culture of preparedness within various sectors of the community. The session highlighted the importance of being ready for any type of disaster, whether it’s a fire, flood, or earthquake. Audiences were encouraged to take proactive measures, such as creating emergency plans, assembling disaster kits, and learning first aid. By sharing essential information and resources, the VIC played a key role in strengthening the community’s resilience and reducing the potential impact of emergencies.
While BFP is widely known for responding to fire-related emergencies, their role extends far beyond fire response. BFP also plays a vital role in disaster response, assisting communities during natural and man-made disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and other emergencies. This partnership between DSWD NCR and BFP NCR aimed to provide important safety information and resources to the public, focusing not only on fire prevention but also on disaster preparedness and response.
DSWD NCR remains committed to using all available resources to keep the community informed and safe. Through ongoing communication efforts like the VIC, DSWD continues to ensure that the public is equipped with the knowledge they need to handle emergencies and protect lives.
