Fifteen residents of Nayon ng Kabataan participated in a Theoretical Driving Course (TDC) facilitated by iRise Driving School in partnership with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) on April 7 and 14, 2025, at the iRise branch in Robinsons Metro East, Pasig.
The initiative aimed to prepare the participants – youth under the care of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) – for responsible driving through basic road safety education. The course covered traffic rules, signage recognition, and safe driving practices, followed by a written exam to assess learning.
Out of the fifteen participants, seven successfully earned their TDC certificates. Three have already secured their student permits, while eleven underwent medical examinations and obtained their medical certificates, which are prerequisites for obtaining a driver’s license.
Some participants are still in the process of completing documentary requirements, including PSA birth certificates, PhilSys National IDs, and LTMS portal registrations, before they can continue to the next steps.
The TDC is the first mandatory requirement in the LTO’s licensing process, followed by the Practical Driving Course (PDC) and the actual driving test. Officials said the training helps reduce anxiety and promotes road safety by ensuring drivers are equipped with the right knowledge before getting behind the wheel.
This activity is part of the broader effort of the DSWD-NCR and its private partners to provide youth with life skills and opportunities for independent living. It also reflects a commitment to inclusive access to essential services such as driver education.
