The athletes of Elsie Gaches Village recently participated in a mini olypics led by World Association of Psychosocial Rehabilitation (WAPR), a non-Government organization which caters people who has their necessities for professional help in the field of psychology as well as an advocate of psychosocial help worldwide.
In the Philippines, there are local organizations and institutional facilities that are affiliated with WAPR such as National Center for Mental Health (NCMH), Cavite Center for Mental Health (CCMH), University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH), Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC), Algon Center, and Elsie Gaches Village.
As the yearly gathering of the WAPR, the said affiliates were gathered through the concept of mini Special Olympics.The WAPR mini Olympics was held in Veterans Memorial Medical Center at Quezon City last November 27, 2016. It was started by a parade of walk of every institution of affiliated participants of WAPR.
After the introduction part of the event, it is followed by the competition proper. The guidelines for the mini Olympics was divided into three parts: the elimination round, round robin, and the final stage in order to determine the champion for the given sport event. EGV had sent 19 residents together with 11 staffs.
The first sport that the EGV children participated with is chess against the NCMH players followed by basketball game with Veterans Memorial Medical Center, and the poster drawing contest, and parlor games which the players from EGV children got the championship and runner up titles.
At the end of the WAPR Mini Olympics 2016, the Cavite Center for Mental Health team was declared as the champion, followed by Algon Center as the 2nd place and Elsie Gaches Village as 3rd place.###
