On July 2, 2019, the Sanctuary Center, spearheaded by its Dietary Service Office, joined the nation in observing the National Nutrition Month, with the theme, “Kumain nang wasto at maging aktibo…push natin ‘to!”. This observation is based on Presidential Decree 491, also known as the Nutrition Act of the Philippines.
The purpose of the celebration is to disseminate nutrition-related information and to create greater awareness on the importance of nutrition among Filipinos. Parts of the activities were: the nutri-parade, playing of video presentations, and hanging of streamer and other visual aid materials.
Ms. Loren May Oliva, Nutritionist-Dietician I of the Center, graced the opening activity and welcomed the participants. Twenty two (22) selected participants of different Skills Training Programs within the Center joined the nutri-parade and carried their colorful posters together with fresh fruits and vegetables from the Center’s backyard.
As part of the celebration, the Center will conduct Poster Making Contest, Lecture on the Importance of Backyard Gardening, Nutri-Bingo and Zumba Dance Contest and Culminating Activity.
The activity aims to strengthen the advocacy on the importance of healthy diet, increased physical activity, and reduced sedentary behavior. By putting this advocacy into practice, each and everyone can improve their well-being and healthy lifestyle.
