The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) received today P1M cash donations from the City of Naga, Cebu intended for the victims of massive flooding in Metro Manila.
Naga City, Cebu Mayor Valdemar Chiong personally handed over the check donation to DSWD-NCR Regional Director, Ma. Alicia S. Bonoan yesterday (August 13) during the Monday flag ceremony held at NCR Field Office.
Mayor Chiong said that they were thankful because they were not affected by the massive flooding caused by the torrential monsoon rains that submerged most parts of Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
“We decided to donate some amounts to help our affected countrymen,” said Chiong.
Bonoan expressed her gratitude to the constituents of Mayor Chiong and assured that their donations will reach to the affected communities and families. Report of disbursement will also be forwarded to his office.
Bonoan also announced that DSWD will continue to accept donations for the flood victims at DSWD National Resources and Operations Center (NROC) located at NAIA Chapel Road, Pasay City (beside Airport Police Department and back of Transportation Office) with telephone numbers 852-8081 and 851-2681 or its Field Office at 389 San Rafael cor. Legarda Street, Sampaloc, Manila.
As of August 14, at 8:00am, 64 evacuation centers are still open in various cities in NCR to accommodate the 8,400 families or 36,979 individuals. DSWD has also provided some P16.9M worth of food and non-food assistance to the 17 local government units.
“We are also closely coordinating with the LGUs who serve as camp managers in assessing the needs of the flood victims, both inside and outside the evacuation centers, and in determining who among these victims need psychological interventions and stress debriefings,” Bonoan added.###
