The Sanctuary Center of the Department of Social Welfare and Development-National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) capped the annual observance of Buwan ng Wika last August 30, 2013 through the conduct of various therapeutic activities for its improved mental clients.
This year’s theme is, “Wika Natin Ang Daang Matuwid.”
Clients and staff of the center commemorated the event in a festive mood as they dressed in colorful Filipiniana costumes. Selected clients cheerfully flourished their self-made headdress to represent the different festivals of the country.
Thirty (30) residents paraded within the vicinity of the center to showcase the beautiful apparel of different regions and colorful wreath of different festivities.
Ms. Margarita Ortega, OIC of Sanctuary Center said the celebration focuses on flourishing colorful costumes, educating the participants about the significance of the event and reminding them of the value of maintaining the Filipino culture despite the onslaught of Western and Eastern influences nowadays.
During this event, the participants actively engaged in the Search for Ms. Lakambini, poem recital, singing of Filipino Kundiman songs, folk dance among elderly clients and a short play entitled, “Tara Na, Biyahe Tayo,” showcasing the different regions and their culture. Clients also played various traditional Filipino games such as hatawang palayok at pabitin which added excitement to the program. ### (FO-NCR Social Marketing Office, September 11, 2013)
