The Department of Social Welfare and Development in National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) and the Philippine Good Work Mission Foundation, Inc. (PGMFI) recently awarded Php 244,000 worth of capital assistance to six (6) organized Self-Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran (SEA-K) associations from the cities of Quezon, Caloocan and Manila.
The DSWD-NCR and PGMFI, through Ahon Kabuhayan project awarded to the 34 SEA-K beneficiaries their capital assistance ranging from P3,000 to 15,000.
DSWD-NCR Regional Director Ma. Alicia S. Bonoan said that PGMFI has extended more than P4.4M capital assistance to 744 beneficiaries from the cities of Manila, Quezon, Caloocan, Taguig, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas and municipality of Pateros.
Bonoan also thanked the PGMFI, represented by former DSWD Undersecretary Belinda Manahan for complementing the limited resources of the government. Meanwhile, she challenged the recipients to properly manage the capital assistance, as the success of their business depends on their management of the funds.
Ms. Evangeline Labatete, a Pantawid Pamilya beneficiary who received her second loan was thankful for the assistance received from PGMFI and DSWD.
“Malaki ang pasasalamat ko DSWD at sa Ahon Kabuhayan project dahil natulungan akong mapaunlad ang aking negosyo. Simula sa maliit na karinderya, napalago ko ito at ngayon meron na akong sari-sari store,” Evangeline shared.
Ahon Kabuhayan is one of the projects of PGMFI which uses the SEA-K scheme. It aims to alleviate the plight of the poor by providing them assistance to start a small business or augment their existing capital.
The DSWD for its part identified, the beneficiaries and provided capacity building through conduct of Basic Business Management Training to the members of the SEA-K associations.
