The Department of Social Welfare and Development-National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) conducted recently an orientation with representatives from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) which aimed to mobilize and seek their support on household assessment, held at Makati Palace Hotel.
DSWD-NCR Regional Director Ma. Alicia S. Bonoan said the activity is part of the preparations of the Field Office for the conduct of household assessment this year.
“For the second household assessment, we will be updating the database of poor households that was generated in 2009 based on a uniform, objective and transparent methodology,” Bonoan added.
During the orientation, the participants were informed about the new brand of the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) which is Listahanan, which will use the tagline ‘Talaan ng Pamilyang Nangangailangan,’ to clear misconception of the public that the project provides grants and services to the households classified as poor.
Bonoan emphasized that Listahanan establishes a list of poor families in need of assistance from social protection program. She also disclosed that the second household assessment targets 1,267,292 households. DSWD-NCR hired 1,637 project-based staff which will be deployed in different cities/municipality in Metro Manila to undertake the assessment.
During the 2009 enumeration, a total of 5,255,188 households have been identified by DSWD as poor, wherein 316,823 are from the National Capital Region.
Listahanan or NHTS-PR is an information management system that identifies who and where the poor are nationwide. The system makes available to national government agencies and other social protection stakeholders a database of poor families as reference in identifying potential beneficiaries of social protection programs and services. ###
