The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) joins the National Anti–Poverty Commission (NAPC) in the commemoration of the United Nations’ International Day for the Eradication of Poverty and the Philippines’ National Week for Overcoming Extreme Poverty from October 17 to 23, 2013.
During the kick–off activity of the week–long celebration held at Luneta Park, Manila, DSWD NCR awarded educational assistance to elementary and high school students from the City of Manila. The educational assistance will benefit some 500 elementary and high school students from Manila under the government’s Bottom–Up Budgeting project. Each student will receive 1,000 for their school needs.
The DSWD-NCR also awarded P75,000.00 capital assistance to Tumana Maunlad Self–Employment Assistance Kaunlaran (SEA–K) Association from Marikina City.
The Capital Assistance for Sustainable Livelihood Program Towards Poverty Alleviation project will benefit some 420 poor families from Marikina City through provision of capital assistance.
The kick–off event was also highlighted by wreath laying by participating agency headed by Hon. Jose Eliseo M. Pocamora, Lead Convenor of NAPC, at the commemorative stone to honor the victims of extreme poverty at the Luneta Park.
This year’s theme is ‘Working Together Towards a World without Discrimination.’ ###
