The Department of Social Welfare and Development – National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR), through its Foster/Adoption Support Group (F/ASG), recently conducted its first-ever summer activity which carries the theme, “Larong Pinoy mini-lympics”at Nayon ng Kabataan in Mandaluyong City.
Some 25 adoptive families gathered to enjoy the half-day event filled with fun and excitement. They also participated in various activities inspired by our traditional games such as patintero, sipa, karerang sako, sungka, dama, tumbang preso and sipit-bao.
Moreover, games like “Sambunot (agawang buko) and “Pukpok Palayok” were played by both parents and their children. Last year, a family camp was conducted as their summer event. It included team building activities, games and adventure for children and parents alike.
One of the good practices of the region, the Foster/Adoption Support Group was organized and became fully functional on 2009. It is a post adoption service where it unites a group of people with similar experiences to provide encouragement to one another. Also, adoptive/foster families assist its members in dealing with adoption/foster care issues and concerns. ### (FO-NCR, Social Marketing Office. June 02, 2014)
