The Sanctuary Center which is being managed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development – National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) joined the nation in celebrating the Nutrition Month through conduct of several activities in July which carried year’s theme, “Timbang Iwasto sa Tamang Nutrisyon at Ehersisyo.”
“We would like to teach our residents the importance of having a good nutrition. We would like to encourage them to eat healthy foods and be physically fit,” Margarita Ortega, Officer-In-Charge of Sanctuary Center enthused.
One of highlights of their activities was the Nutri-parade last July 29, 2015 which was participated by 25 student-clients of Basic Literacy program, wearing colorful images of different fruits and newly harvested vegetables in the backyard of the center.
Advocacy materials such as streamers, posters, and flyers were displayed and disseminated to raise awareness on the importance of having a healthy lifestyle. Dietary Service staff also provided insights on proper nutrition and exercise among the residents and staff of the center during its flag ceremonies.
Moreover, they also conducted games and contests such Nutri-Bingo, vegetable, fruit drawing, and cooking demonstration.
The Sanctuary Center is a place of refuge and temporary shelter for adult female improved mental patients who are abandoned, neglected, and unattached. Through its therapeutic and rehabilitative services, it aims to restore these women’s social functioning and eventually reunite them with their families and mainstream them back to society. ###
