The Department of Social Welfare and Development – National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) actively participated on the 2nd Metro Manila Shake Drill last June 22, 2016 9:00AM at the Metro Manila Development Association main office, EDSA cor. Orense St. Guadalupe Makati City.
The said activity is in preparation for the 7.2 magnitude earthquake or the mostly called as the “Big One” which intends to increase the people’s awareness not only on surviving but on how to help other casualties during the occurrence of the said calamity as well.
The Drill was started by a 45-second long siren at exactly 9:00 in the morning which signaled the people to do the “Duck” or drop on the ground, “Cover” protect your head from injuries and “Hold” until the floor stops shaking then proceed to a safer place.
DSWD-NCR divided its participants and volunteers into four (4) quadrants which were situated at LRT Line 2 Santolan station, Intramuros Golf Course, Villamor Airbase in Pasy City and Veterans’ Memorial Medical Center.
Each group is in-charge on relief operation and camp management for the casualties and provision of goods for the evacuees.
The other Government Agencies who participated on the event are MMDA, PIA-NCR, DPWH-NCR, DOST-NCR, DEPED-NCR, OCD-NCR, DILG-NCR, NCRPO, DOH NCRO, BFP-NCR and JTF-NCR.
Meanwhile, the Camp Aguinaldo AFP Headquarters was used as the Command Center which facilitates the needs and concerns of each quadrant and was managed by the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management (NDRRMC).
The Drill was successfully done and terminated at exactly 12:00 nn as declared by MMDA Chairman Emmerson Carlos and General Manager Corazon Jimenez.###
