The Sanctuary Center, a residential institution that serves as halfway home to female 18 years old and above who are improving from psychosis and other mental illness, observed the annual celebration of Buwan ng Wika with the theme, “Filipino: Wika ng Karunungan” held in Social Hall last August 31, 2016.
Residents and staff commemorated the event in a festive mood as they dressed in colorful Filipino costumes. Some proudly displayed their banners and creative wreaths made of indigenous materials representing different festivals in the Philippines such as Bangus Festival of Dagupan City, Panagbenga Festival of Baguio, Masskara Festival of Bacolod and Lechon Festival of Balayan, Batangas.
The activity aims to emphasize the importance of our national language in preserving our cultures, traditions and history as a Filipino. One of the highlights of the event was the rendition of Kundiman song entitled “Maalaala Mo Kaya” which was sung by the residents while offering red roses to the newly assigned Center Head, Evangelina Lawas.
On her remarks, Lawas acknowledged the enthusiasm of the residents during the activity and their courage to showcase their skills and talents.
“Let us be proud to theFilipio language, because it makes us unique among other nations,” she enthused. ###
