Last December 11, 2017, the Regional Committee for the Welfare of Children (RCWC-NCR) conducted their first Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) at Icon hotel Timog attended by participants from the Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC)/ Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC), RCWC-NCR Members, Focal Person, Technical staff and DSWD-NCR Field Office staff.
The program aims to discuss the function and duties of each LGU to the success of the programs that will feature the welfare of the children, thus the Regional Committee for the Welfare of Children (RCWC- NCR) serves as the link between national agencies involved in the promotion of children’s rights and welfare and the Local Government Unit. Being the link, it provides direct assistance, promotes and enhances regional coordination and harmonization of efforts for the well-being of children. As Advocate and partner of various stakeholders in the promotion of protection of children’s rights and welfare at the NCR, the RCWC ensures the convergence in delivering of the appropriate programs and services to the children through strengthening the LCPC.
Ms. Glenda Derla, RCWC Focal Person and Social Welfare Specialist for Children, discussed and show the AVP of the Four Legacies for Children which includes the Local Development Plan for Children (LDPC), Local Investment Plan for Children (LIPC), Local Code on Children (LCC), Local State of the Children Report (LSCR). Three LGU’S were given the chance to discuss how they apply the 4 Legacies in their respective areas. First to present was the City of Makati on their LDPC followed by City of Mandaluyong- LCC and the City of Pasay- LSCR. The City of Muntinlupa shared the Good Practice on Child Participation.
The program ended with a short but meaningful speech given by the DSWD-NCR’s Regional Director Mr. Vincent Andrew T. Leyson, He emphasized the rights and welfare of the children should be on the top priorities and that everyone can be a big help in promoting the rights of every children.
Each City is requested to display their 2016 and 2017 LCPC accomplishments including their developed IEC materials to encourage or challenge other LCPC’s to adopt/ replicate the good results for children.#####
