The Department of Social Welfare and Development- National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) joins the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) in commemorating the Urban Poor Day on May 26, 2018 at Camarin D Elementary School, Caloocan City with the theme: “Maralitang Tagalungsod, Para sa iyo Biyaya ng Pagbabago.” Almost 4000 urban poor members participated in this event along with different National Government Agencies (NGAs).
This initiative aims to directly interact with and immediately provide to the urban poor the services they need. DSWD-NCR set a helpdesk where participants can raise their queries regarding Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (PPPP) and Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP). Most of the concerns raised about Pantawid Pamilya are the process on how to become a member and the grants current members are receiving. All queries raised are accommodated and recorded by the Cluster Grievance Officers together with the City Links of North Caloocan. On the other hand, SLP staff explained to the participants how to avail the livelihood assistance that can be provided by the Department.
In the same event, students from the National Vocational Rehabilitation Center (NVRC) offers free massage for all. In addition, Foster Care Section and the Community Based Services Section are also present in the event to inform the public with the other programs and services of the Department and the necessary requirements to be submitted in order to qualify.
Lastly, other NGAs also initiated wellness activities to the urban poor such as feeding program, dental check-up, free detox and hair-cut, zumba, martial arts, provision of vitamins, legal counsel, among others.
