The Department of Social Welfare and Development – National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) takes action on the viral video of a 2-year-old boy left inside a heavily tinted car by his parents at a parking lot located at Metrowalk Comercial Complex in Pasig City.
As seen in a video posted on Facebook by a concerned citizen named, Mr. Jasper Pascual on July 8, the young boy cries for help to get out as he knocks on the windows of a Toyota vehicle. This incident happened at around 11 PM. Alarmed by what he saw, Mr. Pascual immediately asked the help of Mr. Michael Villanueva, the security guard on duty at that time. It took them some more minutes to locate the parents of the 2 y/o boy.
Mr. Nilo M. Salgarino, Social Welfare Officer II along with Ms. Gracille Anne Tarroquin and Ms. Beverly Grace Bergonia, Information Officers from DSWD-NCR’s Reach Out Team visited the area earlier today to verify the incident and check the situation of the child. According to the General Manager of Metrowalk, Atty. Virgilio Publico, the parents of the child are current tenants in the food park located at the area. In addition, Mr. Villanueva narrated that it took him twice to approach the parents before they came to rescue the boy. “Kung hindi pa namin sinabi ni Sir Jasper na babasagin namin ang windshield ng sasakyan, hindi pa nila pupuntahan yung anak nila,” he narrated.
The team went to the family’s residence to get their side of the story however; no one’s answering their phone calls. This case will be endorsed to the Community Based Services Section (CBSS) for the provision of social protection to the child. The Department will continue to monitor this case and ensure to provide the right intervention for the child’s welfare.
