Amidst the threat of COVID-19 pandemic, Elsie Gaches Village is true to its commitment to promote healthy mind and body especially among its staff and residents which paved way to the annual celebration of 2020 Nutrition Month with the theme, “Batang Pinoy, SANA TALL… Iwas Stunting, SAMA ALL! Iwas All din sa COVID-19.” This activity started on July 16 to July 27, 2020.

The event aims to provide the staff and residents the activities which could help boost their immune system, provide proper knowledge on how to manage and practice personal hygiene so as to prevent the spread of COVID-19. It also centered on the importance of healthy living and proper body nutrition.

The activities prepared by the Psychological Department and the Dietary Service includes Sandwich Making and Hand Washing Activity, and Sandwich Making Activity wherein 30 residents actively participated and enjoyed making their own sandwiches and prepared their own version of Vegetable Salad. After the activity, the residents are taught on how to properly wash their hands.

To continuously promote and maintain strong physical health, Fun Games are also conducted wherein the residents participated in the race.

The celebration of the Nutrition Month for this year may be different from the other celebrations due to the pandemic but it did not hinder the hardworking staff of the center to impart the importance of healthy mind and body to the residents while having some fun.

Good nutrition is the key to build immunity, protect against illness and infection and support recovery. Included in the Covid-19 prevention efforts are preserving and promoting proper nutrition and appropriate complementary feeding practices among children 0-23 months in order to build resilience of individuals and communities.

All the staff and residents who participated in the activities are well equipped with Face Masks and Sanitary Gloves. Physical distancing was observed.

Elsie Gaches Village is a residential care facility for persons with intellectual/mental impairments who were abandoned, neglected, or abused by their own family or community. ###
