The Department of Social Welfare and Development – National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) simultaneously conducted orientation to universities, colleges, public and private schools from Manila and Quezon City on the Oplan Balik Bahay, Sagip Buhay (OBBSB) project, held at Hotel Rembrandt, Quezon City and Ramada Manila Central last August 5, 2015.
Some 235 from the academe attended the said activities wherein they were oriented on the objectives of OBBSB particularly the Modified Conditional Cash Transfer for Homeless Street Families (MCCT-HSF) and the current status of homelessness within the cities.
DSWD-NCR Regional Director Ma. Alicia S. Bonoan encouraged all participating schools to be involved or initiate activities that will contribute to the successful implementation of the OBBSB project. She said, “Ang lahat ng ating pagsisikap ay may katumbas na gantimpala. Ito yung makita natin ang pagbabago sa buhay ng ating mga homeless families na nasa lansangan.”
Through this activity, the academe committed to help the Department by conducting feeding programs, extra-curricular activities, monitoring MCCT-students in their schools and raising awareness, among others, to address the issue of homeless families.
The Oplan Balik Bahay Sagip Buhay project aims to address the prevalence of street dwellers in the major thoroughfares in NCR, particularly in Manila and Quezon City through the provision of packages of programs designed to meet the needs of the beneficiaries and to keep families and their children out of the street.###
